Adam Detzner, Minister of Music and Organist at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Annandale, will present a recital of works he has prepared for the 2023 International Schnitger Organ Competition in Alkmaar, the Netherlands. As the only American among the nine candidates, he will compete on original instruments, including the world’s third-oldest organ from 1511. The theme of the competition and festival is “European music in times of war and peace,” and the repertoire list features early music from a wide variety of times and places. Composers represented include J. S. Bach, Cabanilles, Muffat, Titelouze, and Buxtehude. Adam recorded his successful audition tape on the beautiful new Pasi organ at Saint George’s. We are excited to welcome him back to perform this recital. A free-will offering will be collected to help defray the cost of Adam’s travel and lodging.
